Jennie Sparkes

Jennie draws upon a thirty-two year career with Parks Canada in various roles associated with ecosystem conservation.  She has combined her passion for working in nature with permaculture, horticulture and forestry practices to assist homeowners maintain beautiful, natural, wildfire resilient properties.  In 2019 Jennie focused full time on restoring a neglected Salt Spring Island acreage through redesigning gardens and integrating wildfire management techniques into the properties' forested areas.  The intent was to both beautify the property, maintain ecological integrity and reduce the risk of wildfire loss.  This began her focus on offering wildfire resiliency services for overgrown gardens and  neglected forests. 

 

Jennie holds a Masters in Environmental Management, and diplomas in Forestry Practices as well as Wildlands Parks and Recreation Management.  She has been gardening for nearly forty years and upon retiring from Parks Canada studied permaculture design, attained her certificate in Organic Master Gardening, and has completed the FireSmart Ambassador, Wildfire Risk Reduction and Local FireSmart Representative (LFR) training, and is a FireSmart Landscape Professional for British Columbia.
